A repeat order is a new production decision
A repeat order may use the same product, but the production context can change. The file may have been revised, the material or color may differ, the quantity may be larger, the deadline may be tighter, or the packing and shipment plan may have changed.
Revision control creates a shared answer to two questions: what was approved last time, and what is intentionally different this time? It can be lightweight, but it should be more reliable than a filename and a message thread.
Create one release record per approved version
The release record connects the digital file to the commercial product and production instructions. Store it wherever the team already manages product documents, as long as the current approved version is obvious and old versions are not silently overwritten.

Use filenames that identify the product and revision
A filename should help someone choose the correct file without opening every version. Use a stable product code, part name, revision, and units when useful. Avoid replacing an approved file with a new export that has the same name.
Keep draft, review, and released files in separate states. The manufacturer should receive the released package plus notes about any decision that is still open.

Route every change through impact review
A small design change can affect orientation, support needs, machine time, fit, material use, finish, packing, or the quote. Before a repeat run, state what changed and ask whether the previous production assumptions still apply.
Commercial changes deserve the same treatment. A new color, bundle, insert, quantity, ship date, or destination can change the handoff even when the geometry is identical.

Reconcile the release after each run
After production, update the record with accepted corrections or lessons that should shape the next request. If a change is temporary for one run, label it that way instead of allowing it to become the accidental default.
This is also the right time to record buyer-facing changes. If the material, color, included items, dimensions, care notes, or handling expectation changed, make sure the product listing and support information remain aligned.
Send the current release into quote review
When outsourcing repeat 3D printing, upload the current released file and include the release ID, quantity, material, finish, required date, packing needs, and change summary in the project notes.
